Marian Plug attended the Rijksnormaalschool in the garden of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. She studied graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In 1970 she completed her education at De Ateliers.

In a 1975 film by Hooykaas/Stansfield, a young Marian talks about the design process of her early graphic works and prints the silkscreen “The Bridge”.  A few clips of this film (Collection Eye Film Museum, Amsterdam).

For her paintings she received the Jeanne Oosting Prize in 1985, in 1991 the Singer Prize and in 1997 a bronze medal at the International Festival for Painting in Cagnes-sur-Mer. In 2002 and 2006 a complete catalog of all oil paintings was published under the title “Marian Plug Paintings”. In 1986, the city of Amsterdam awarded her the Hans Jaffé Prize for her watercolors of the Nieuwmarkt area during the construction of the metro.

Her work is in leading museums such as the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Museum de Lakenhal Leiden, Centraal Museum Utrecht, the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris and many corporate and private collections. Her long correspondence with writer and translator August Willemsen was fully published in 2014 by De Arbeiderspers in the Private Domain series, entitled Bewaar deze brieven als je eigen tekeningen (“Keep these letters like your own drawings”).
